St. Margaret’s School Announces New Dean of Faculty, Dean of Academics
Larry and Susan Foulk Return to Lead New Programming

(Tappahannock, Va.) - St. Margaret’s School’s Head of School Colley Bell announced today the appointment of Larry Foulk, Jr. as St. Margaret’s Dean of Faculty and Susan Foulk as Dean of Academics. The married couple has spent most of their professional lives teaching and mentoring students in Episcopal and independent schools in Louisiana, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Both taught at St. Margaret’s School from 2006-2015 a period in which they also raised their three children. St. Margaret’s is an Episcopal boarding and day school for girls in grades 8-12 and postgraduate. The 100-year-old school is situated on the Rappahannock River.

As Dean of Faculty Larry Foulk will oversee the school’s teaching staff and develop course curriculum. He will also teach AP US History and other history courses along with independent studies. He will be heavily involved in St. Margaret’s River Program aptly named S.T.R.E.A.M. (a curriculum combining Science, Technology, River, Engineering, Arts, and Math).

“To return to St. Margaret’s presents me with a genuine opportunity to honor and strengthen the sisterhood that is our SMS family...past, present, and future,” said L. Foulk. “I am honored to be a part of the St. Margaret’s experience as we teach young women to walk in grace. I believe strongly in the school’s value and relevance in our world and for our time.”

Susan Foulk will be Dean of Academics overseeing the school’s education strategies and applicability to 21stcentury skillsets. She will teach 8th and 9th grade science courses and direct further integration of hands-on, outdoor learning on the Rappahannock River with the school’s science curriculum. She is actively involved in environmental and sustainable-living efforts.

“The stewardship of God’s creation resonates within my heart and within the Episcopal identity,” said Susan Foulk. “Returning to the beauty of the Rappahannock’s ebb and flow challenges me to come full circle—to live what I love and to foster St. Margaret’s Scotties past, present, and future in caring for one another and the world beyond our banks.”

“Susan and Larry Foulk embody the academic and Episcopal mission of St. Margaret’s School,” said Head of School Colley Bell. “Our school is celebrating a century of providing young women a world-class holistic education. The Foulks’ leadership will propel the school’s mission into its next century.”

The Foulks will reside on campus where they will be an integral part of St. Margaret’s academic and boarding school life. St. Margaret’s School is accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. For more information visit www.sms.org.
