  Bio

  Blake Brunner teaches World Literature and serves as our talented College Counselor. In his history and literature courses, he hopes that students will come to understand how human production and exchange form the basis of our social structures.

   

  Mr. Brunner also participates in the Outdoor Adventures program at St. Margaret's. He has been an avid outdoorsman since his own time in high school, and he enjoys accompanying the students in kayaking and trekking throughout the Rappahannock River area.

   

  Mr. Brunner holds a B.A. in writing from Johns Hopkins University and an M.A. in international relations from Boston University.

  Dr. Jonathan Cook

  Bio

  Dr. Cook is a literary scholar, educator, and musician born in Washington, DC, raised in the Hudson Valley of New York, and currently living in Northern Virginia.  He has a B.A. from Harvard College and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.  He has taught literature and writing over the span of three decades at various institutions.  His major field of concentration as a literary scholar is nineteenth-century American literature, and he is a specialist in the writings of Herman Melville.  He has published an extensive roster of books, articles, and reviews, and has recorded numerous one-hour podcasts on selected works of American and English literature, available on YouTube and SoundCloud.  A long-time guitar and mandolin player, he has composed a number of original works for the steel-string acoustic guitar.

  Mr. Joseph Cunningham

  Bio

  Joseph Cunningham teaches Math and Religion. He is a graduate of St. John’s College in Annapolis, and its sister campus in Santa Fe. While there, he worked as a resident advisor for two years, as a librarian, and as an assistant in the College’s observatory and planetarium program, which instructs students on the geometry of outer space. He majored in both the history of math and science and philosophy, and minored in classics and comparative literature. He wrote his graduation thesis on Dante’s overcoming of the Dark Wood and his first steps through Hell in Dante’s Inferno. Joseph is passionate about making math accessible and empowering students to see its relevance in interpreting the world. Joseph resides on campus in Pettigrew Hall. He can be found exploring the history of the local area with his canine companion of the moment, as he often takes on dog-sitting duties, or exercising his passion for soccer and rowing on St. Margaret’s extensive sports grounds.

  Bio

  Michelle brings a wealth of experience, know-how, and passion to St. Margaret’s classroom. Her teaching is dedicated to discovery and the restorative properties of natural resources and the specific challenges faced by marine and freshwater organisms. A graduate of Arizona State University with 22 years of teaching experience in NJ, she enters her second year at St. Margaret’s. Her teaching is credited with uncovering an interaction between psyllium husk and oil, and spawned an entirely new industry effectively overcoming obstacles of oil containment and strongly contributing to the end of the Gulf Oil Spill. Her teaching has been featured on World News Tonight, Good Morning America, and the Weather Channel. Michelle models and emulates female empowerment and the strengthening of girls through analytical and strategic thought and true achievement. This year the girls will set their sights on oyster health specifically shell growth and the establishment of a biochemical method for the acceleration of shell generation.

  Ms. Javadpour is an alumna of St. Margaret’s School and excited to return to campus! She earned her B.S. from Temple University’s Fox Honors School of Business. She competed as an athlete for Temple’s Women’s Swimming and Rugby.

  Bio

  Callie Poole joined St. Margaret’s School as a member of the faculty in 2023. Callie teaches an Advanced Placement psychology course to juniors and seniors as well as a course in U.S. history and digital media. She is the head coach of the field hockey team and assistant coach for the soccer team. Callie will be reviving the field hockey program from a five year hiatus. A 2022 graduate of the University of Mary Washington, Callie earned a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Digital Studies. She played varsity field hockey for UMW and was a member of the co-ed, club ice hockey team. In addition, she was a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society, an academic society for high achieving psychology students. During her time at Mary Washington, she also founded the One Love club. Callie resides on campus in Latane. She loves spending her free time going to the beach in her hometown of Virginia Beach, watching Philly sports, rollerblading, and video editing. In addition to her passion for education, Callie loves raising awareness to foundations such as the One Love Foundation, the Joyful Heart Foundation as well as mental health education and research.
